“Always be supple as a reed and not hard as a cedar” (Ta’anit, 20,1)
While discussing the set phrase “academic backbone” one actually relates to the term academic integrity of academic learning, teaching and research which is based upon several essential values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect dignity as well as responsibility. Based upon the writings of Marshall and Hiatt, the article suggests eleven ways to cultivate an academic backbone and emphasizes its input to the professional growth of university academics.
