Evaluation and feedback on creative works: Insights for academia based on ‘American Idol’

This article discusses the subject of evaluations and grading in cases where the subjectivity component is very high. The article relates to creative works, such as models/products (two- and three dimensional) in the faculties of Design, Art and Architecture. However, the dilemmas presented may be applied to all tasks in which students are required to create or build the answer/product (final projects, seminar works, essays, and all projects that require writing a report, making a presentation or creating some other type of tangible product). Alongside the dilemmas, the article also presents practical suggestions for improving the evaluation process in these types of cases.
